Thonet Union

Starting point for this small collection of chairs were seven chairs that were discovered in a farmer’s old shed in a small village. By researching about the origin of these chairs it was found out that they were produced in 1954 by Thonet in Frankenberg and dispatched by train to the small village. For decades they served well in the local pub of the village. Traditionally the pub has been serving as a meeting points for the community.

With Thonet Union the aim was to visualize how the chairs had once helped connect the community of the small village by getting them closer to each other and creating groups by loosely connecting them. The chairs, as a visualization of the people, can be grouped and regrouped individually. The colours refer to those typical of the 1950s but are lighter and greyish to visualize the time passed by.
